The Full Story

Our Family's Story

Cooking is in our family's blood.  Chef's Dennis's mother was a superb cook.  From a little boy, he would be in the kitchen to help Mom.  Holiday dinners  were  full of her delectable dishes.  Family and friends would come from all over to dine from the Wheaton kitchen.  When her kitchen became too small to prepare dishes for 40-50 people, she turned her garage into a kitchen!  Delicious pies and cakes and homemade dishes were a staple at her house.

Cheryl's aunt Mabel was also a great old-fashioned cook.  Her specialty was canning.  Aromatic jellies, jams and  preserves  lined her basement shelves.  You could find her at anytime whipping  up desserts like rice pudding, bread pudding, fabulous cakes, fruit pies and rhubarb pie.   Often she would surprise family members by preparing a full meal just for their family.  

Chef Dennis incorporated both his mother's unique cooking techniques and seasonings with Aunt Mabel's recipes with a "pinch of this and a dash of that" to create his own recipes.  Side Street is honored to continue to carry those recipes on to future generations.
